This one's a different sort of home opener...

Thirty-eight artists will be featured in “Home,” an all-media show at the gallery of Falls Church Arts, Aug. 24 through Sept. 29. The exhibit's theme was selected by social media followers in a "March Madness" bracket-style selection process. To launch the show, the gallery will host a meet-the-artists reception – free and open to the public – Saturday, Aug. 24, from 7-9:00 p.m.

For this exhibit, artists were invited to submit works that "embody what 'home' means to them." The show includes both representational and interpretive works. Artists depicted a wide range of subjects capturing the feeling of home in nature, at worship, with family and friends. Media include watercolor, acrylic, metal, mixed media, mosaics, and photography.

“'Home.' The word conjures up many feelings, many memories, and many definitions," said Juror, Mark Dreisonstok, a well-known Washington D.C. arts reviewer. "For some, home is a dream house; for some, it's a birthplace; for some, it's a country they've left or a country they've adopted; for others, it's a state of mind; for still others, it's our planet or even heaven."

Driesonstok describes the 'Home' exhibit: "The artworks are in various media and in a plethora of styles, ranging from the classic to the contemporary. Visitors to the exhibition will enjoy exploring various conceptions of 'home,' ruminating on the topic of what 'home' means to them, and perhaps even finding an artwork or definition of this special term with which they are especially at home."

The Falls Church Arts gallery is at 700-B West Broad St. (Route 7), Falls Church. Admission is free and the gallery is open Tuesdays-Fridays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Artworks can be viewed online at https://www.fallschurcharts.org. All pieces can be purchased at the gallery or on the website.

A Juror's Choice and a People’s Choice Award have been made possible by a donation from Foxcraft Design Group, 110 Great Falls Street. The People’s Choice Award, based on votes from visitors to the gallery, will be announced Sept. 21.
